Jacqui Wallace Massage Kendal
Thai Yoga Massage Therapy

An ancient healing art

What is Thai Yoga Massage?

If you're looking for an antidote to the stresses of daily life, traditional Thai Yoga Massage could be exactly what you need. It's often described as ‘lazy person’s yoga’, because you get all the release of a good stretch without lifting a finger.

Unlike a sports or deep-tissue massage on a couch, Thai Yoga Massage is a practice of deep connection between you and your therapist. You lie on a comfortable futon on the floor while Jacqui uses her hands, feet and elbows to apply slow, rhythmic pressure. She then gently guides your body through stretches, twists and yoga-style movements. You get the satisfying intensity you love, balanced with true relaxation.

The treatment draws on the Ten Sen, a system of energy lines through which the body's natural life force is said to flow. Working along these lines helps ease the blockages that can show up as aches, stiffness and tiredness. At the same time, the steady, grounding rhythm helps to activate your parasympathetic nervous system, which triggers your body’s natural ‘rest and restore’ response. Your breathing slows, your mind quietens, and your body finally gets permission to let go.

How you'll feel

The benefits of Thai massage therapy

Thai Yoga Massage works on your body and mind together. Here's what clients in Kendal and across Cumbria tell Jacqui they notice most.

Deep relaxation and stress relief

Feel the weight of a busy week lift as your nervous system shifts out of ‘go’ mode and into calm.

Better circulation

Rhythmic pressure and movement support healthy circulation and lymphatic flow, so you leave feeling lighter and refreshed.

Less pain and muscle tension

Tight shoulders, stiff hips and a knotted neck get the slow, focused attention they've been asking for.

Relief from headaches

Releasing tension through your neck, shoulders and upper back can bring welcome relief from tension headaches.

More flexibility and movement

Assisted stretches help improve your range of motion, so everyday movements feel easier and freer.

Healthier digestion

Gentle work and deep relaxation help support digestion and the natural functioning of your organs.

Improved posture

As tight areas soften and your body rebalances, standing and sitting tall start to come more naturally.

A calmer, quieter mind

Many clients say they leave feeling grounded, settled and lighter, and several mention sleeping beautifully afterwards.

Is it right for you?

Who is Thai Massage for?

Thai Yoga Massage promotes general health and wellbeing, and it suits far more people than you might think. You don't need to be flexible or sporty, or to know any yoga. All you need is the wish to feel freer in your body and mind.

Athletes and runners

Ease tight hamstrings, hips and calves, and help your body recover so you can keep doing what you love.

Desk-bound workers

Undo the hunch of long days at a screen and release the neck, shoulder and back tension that builds up quietly.

Walkers and outdoor lovers

After a weekend on the fells, give your legs and back the stretch and care they deserve.

Anyone stressed or stiff

If life feels heavy or your body feels stuck, this is a gentle, nurturing way to reset, even if massage isn't usually your thing.

Foot Being Massaged

About Jacqui Wallace

Hello, I'm Jacqui, and I'm your massage therapist here in Kendal. I'm also a yoga teacher, so movement, breath and the way the body holds on to stress are at the heart of everything I do.

What I love about Thai Yoga Massage is that it's so much more than a massage. It's a quiet, unhurried space where you can stop doing and just be looked after. I listen to what you tell me and to what your body tells me, and I adjust the pressure and stretches so they feel just right for you, never pushing beyond your limits.

I've invested a great deal in learning this beautiful art properly. I began my Thai Yoga Massage practitioner training with Katrin Heuser in Lisbon in 2018. I then trained with Drew Hume, founder of the Navina School of Thai Massage, in Costa Rica, gaining my Principal Certification in 2022 and returning in 2023 for enhanced modules. Each step has deepened the way I listen to your body and work with it, so you can relax knowing you're in safe, experienced hands.

Training and qualifications

  • Level 1 and Level 2 Thai Yoga Massage Practitioner Training with Katrin Heuser, Lisbon (March and October 2018)
  • Thai Yoga Massage Principal Certification, Modules 1, 2 and 3, with Drew Hume, founder of the Navina School of Thai Massage, Costa Rica (2022)
  • Enhanced Thai Yoga Massage modules with Drew Hume, Costa Rica (2023): energy lines and the myofascia, side-lying series, and an Ayurvedic approach
  • Committed to ongoing training and professional development
  • Up-to-date public liability insurance for my massage practice

Whether you come to me with tight hips, a stiff neck or a busy mind, or you simply want to feel more like yourself again, I'd love to help.

Thai massage FAQs

Do I need to undress for a Thai massage?

No. This treatment is given fully clothed, so there are no oils and nothing to take off. You simply lie on a comfortable futon on the floor, dressed in your own loose clothing, and let Jacqui do the work.

What should I wear?

Wear soft, loose-fitting clothes that let you move freely and keep you warm, such as leggings or joggers and a long-sleeved top. Avoid jeans, belts and anything tight or restrictive, as you'll be gently stretched and moved through a range of positions.

Does it hurt?

It shouldn't. The massage can feel deep and satisfying, but it's given slowly and with care, and the pressure is adjusted to suit you. One client described it as ‘like a really great sports massage but without the painful parts’. If anything feels too much, just say and Jacqui will ease off.

How is Thai massage different from a sports or deep-tissue massage?

Rather than working on one area on a couch, this style of massage treats your whole body on a futon on the floor. It combines pressure from the hands, feet and elbows along the body's energy lines (the Ten Sen) with gentle, assisted yoga stretches and twists. You get the intensity you love, balanced with deep relaxation, and you stay fully clothed throughout.

I've never had this kind of massage before. Is it right for me?

Very likely, yes. Many of Jacqui's clients come as complete beginners, and you don't need to be flexible or know any yoga. Everything is guided for you, so all you need to do is relax. If you have an injury or a medical condition, or you are pregnant, please mention it when you book so Jacqui can advise you.

What training does Jacqui have?

Jacqui trained as a Thai Yoga Massage practitioner with Katrin Heuser in Lisbon, completing Levels 1 and 2 in 2018. In 2022 she gained her Principal Certification (Modules 1, 2 and 3) with Drew Hume, founder of the Navina School of Thai Massage, in Costa Rica. She returned in 2023 for enhanced modules covering the energy lines and the myofascia, the side-lying series and an Ayurvedic approach. She is committed to ongoing training and holds up-to-date public liability insurance for her massage practice.

How long is a session and how much does it cost?

You can choose a 60-minute session for £55 or a 90-minute session for £70. The longer session gives more time to work slowly through the whole body and is a lovely choice if you're carrying a lot of tension.

Where do treatments take place?

Treatments take place at Revive Massage Therapy, 151 Highgate, Kendal, Cumbria, LA9 4EN, in the centre of town.

When is Jacqui available?

Jacqui's usual days are Mondays from 9am to 3pm and Fridays from 9am to 4:30pm. Other times can sometimes be arranged on a week-by-week basis, so do get in touch to ask.
